Reaction #2
Michael Jordan
pg.50-pg.88

In life there are somethings that just crush you emotionally and phisically. Some people are more emotional than others, but are still affected by these things. Something that i think is a horrible situation to be in is losing a parent. This is completely devastating because i seen my mother go through it when my grandmother past away. Jordan had to deal with that when he lost his father this "hit" him so hard that it stoped him from playing the game that he loved to go play baseball for the chicago white socks. He thought that this would make his father happy, but what it did was take away time from what he truely loved to do. Jordan was a preatty emotional guy because he cried in front of many cameras and didnt care what anyone thought of him. That shows us that real men cry and theres nothing wrong with it. Do you think there is anything in life more devestating than losing someone you love?? Is ok for men to cry??

Michael Jordan

I reached a part in this book were i confused about what is the outcome of Jordans hard work. Michael has completely taken himself to another level in his game avereging more than 30 points a game in five straight years. What i dont understand is why cant he win a title in the begging seasons with his team... then i realized that it not only about him its also about the players around him. Michael was a great player dont get me wrong but it shows that you need a strong supporting cast to do anything in life. Even the best player (arguably) could not do it on his own. I can apply this to many peoples life were if you dont have people helping you to move foward, then you might stray into different roads were it might be hard to get out of problems by your self.

The Genre Of My Book

Arthur Ashe : Breaking The Color Barrier in Tennis By David K. Wright 71-122

The genre of my book is sports memoir. I dont really read that many memoirs because used to feel that its a little cheesy to read someones else's life that was or is more sucessful than myself. I am beginnig to to like this kind of genre though because these books just go on to talk about the struggle that these people went through to get where they are or where they were. You find out what actually went wrong in their career and ended it from their own mouth. You can find out about where they came from and how they made an impact in government. My Book did help break the mold of me not liking sports memoir by giving me vital information that I haven't had a clue about. For instance, Arthur Ashe was infected with AIDS, and I didn't know until I read his book. So not just sports, but memoirs of any kind can change the way you think of that person for life. There is nothing better than getting the correct information from that person.

Arthur's Motivation

Arthur Ashe: Breaking the Color Barrier In Tennis 1-70

Arthur had his good friend Robert Johnson who was laer known as the greatest African American tennis player,to train and put him on the right path to fufill his dreams. He helped him by putting him in tournaments at a young age to get him at a competitive level and ready for competetors of all skill levels. He even got him into special tennis institutes to imnprove his skills. People like Althea Gibson and Reginald Wier were also influences on Arthur as they were two African American tennis players before his time. The most important motivation that Ashe had was his familys'. His father could have been the most supportive person in his household. He paid his way to schools that would help his skills and knowledge. Arthur was devastated when his father died. It made him more focused on his dream to be the best black tennis player there was. He did it all for his father.

Recognition of Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods, Bill Gutman
Pgs 33-47

As a normal sport fan I believed that most superstars either get to little recognition or to much recognition. Tiger Woods is some one receives credit for the achievements he has made in his career but not enough recognition as person in or outside of the sport. Tiger Woods started golfing at a very young age and later began to practice with his father. It wasn't long before he develop the love for the game and little would he know that he will become one of the best ever seen in golf. At the age of 19 he was already receiving titles and championships at an early start. By the age 22 Tiger became the youngest golfer to ever win a national title and the first to win the state title for his school. In a matter of years Tiger decided to go pro. During his career and still he won an impressive amount of titles and tournaments and is label the best of all times.

Conflict
Michael Jordan basketball player
By: Mike McGovern

In every person lifetime people make many desicions in which the cosequences will affect them for the rest of their lifes good or bad. In my book one of the biggest decisions that Jordan had to make was staying in college his senior year or forgoing his senior year and heading straight to the NBA. Michael Jordan acomplished everything there is to do in the NCAA in only three years. He took his team to the national title game and won it, was cellected player of the year and also led the legue in scoring a few years. If this was me then i see no point in staying another year to do the same thing over again. I would want to move on and find a better challenge like winning an NBA title.

Point of view
Michael Jordan basketball playerMike McGovern
P13

This story is written by a Mike McGovern , this story is about Michael Jordan the best player to ever step onto a basketball court. This book is written in third person i do not believe that Mike knew Michael Jordan. The story so far is told from one point of view, the author uses many details in his book about things that happened in michaels life so we can tell that he did alot of reserch. Its interesting when one person is telling the life story of another person because certain details are left out such as the persons feelings at the time that certain things are happening in the characters life. We also do not know what other things are going on to make a person react due to certain events that occur at the same time as when the story is being told.

Conflicts Arthur Faced

Arthur Ashe:Breaking the Color Barrier in Tennis, David K. Wright (1-70)

Arthur faced many problems in his life.Breaking the color barrier in was not as tough to fight with as his problem with AIDS. After most of his career, he decided to call a press conference to tell all of America that he has the disease. Though his wife and little girl didn't have it, it was very hard to face the facts. This conflict caused him to end his career to fight the disease. That was the top of his problems, but there were little things that made his life hard. One of them was that he was black. At that time black people didn't really get any respect in America. Just like Jackie Robinson, there was people that did not want to see Ashe succeed. Him being a black tennis player just didn't seem right for the white Americans. He constntly battled people that didn't want him to play on and off the tennis court. I look foward to seeing how he wards off the ones that want to bring him down and continue to play tennis. Also, I would want to see how the people react when he begins to defeat some of the other tennis players on their courts.
